Hardanger is well known in Norway for fruits and berries: apples, plums and cherries, and is the largest supplier of fruits in the country. You cycle through areas with both small and large fruit farms. In the early summer the wonderful fruit trees are in blossom, in mid-summer the fruit is ripening and in late summer & early fall the fruit can be bought in ”honesty stalls” near the road, where you can help yourself - take the fruit you want and put the money in a box!
You bike over short hills and along fjords, partially on picturesque roads with little traffic, but sometimes you have to bike on roads with more traffic. Ferry crossings offer well deserved breaks where you can enjoy the views from the fjord. The new Hardangerfjord Bridge is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world with facilities for cyclists - an exciting trip!
In Rosendal you can visit the Barony Rosendal, a castle with a magnificent renaissance rose garden. The tour concludes with a boat trip on the Hardangerfjord-Express back to Bergen, which is an experience in itself.
