Day 1: WELCOME TO ICELAND (49 km/30 miles)
Pickup car on arrival. Overnight in Reykjavik/Keflavik.

Day 2: BORGARFJÖRÐUR (200 km/124 miles)
Travel along the scenic Hvalfjörður Fjord to West Iceland and spend the day in the Borgarfjördur valley, famous for its sagas of the Viking time. Here you find Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring. Continue to Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. There are several museums in the area such as the Icelandic settlement museum in Borgarnes, Snorrastofa culture and history exhibition and Hvanneyri Farm Machinery Museum. 2 nights in the Borgarfjördur area, West Iceland.

Day 3: SNÆFELLSNES (280 km/174 miles)
Snæfellesnes Peninsula juts out from Iceland's west coast, like a long arm and in many ways it is a microcosm of the whole island. We highly recommend the fascinating bird watching cruise from Stykkisholmur to the innumerable islands of Breiðafjörður fjord.

Day 4: SKAGAFJÖRÐUR (340-370 km/210-230 miles)
Start the day with a climb up to Grábrók volcano crater in the Bifröst area. Continue to Skagafjördur, valley of the horses and sagas. Here you find the Glaumbær turf farm & folk museum and the Viðimýri church, one of the most beautiful examples of traditional turf church architecture. 2 nights in Eyjafjördur area, North Iceland.

Day 5: EYJAFJÖRÐUR (100 km/62 miles)
Akureyri is the capital of North Iceland and we suggest a visit to the old town, the modern church and botanical garden. In the afternoon we recommend travelling to the fishing village of Dalvik where there are nice hiking possibilities. The island of Hrisey is just a short ferry ride from the main land and considered one of the best bird watching places in Iceland. Hrisey has a population of about 200 people and the picturesque village with colorful houses is worth a visit.

Day 6: MÝVATN (200-220 km/124-137 miles)
Start the day with a visit at Godafoss, the waterfall of the Gods. Lake Myvatn offers a wide spectrum of volcanic and geological features, abundant bird life and a wealth of walking trails. We recommend also a soak in the unique Mývatn Nature Baths, Iceland's newest geothermal spa - called "the Blue Lagoon of the North". 2 nights at Lake Myvatn, Husavik or Eyjafjördur area in North Iceland.

Day 7: HÚSAVÍK & ÁSBYRGI (230 km/143 miles)
Húsavik is called Europe's whale watching capital where you have the option to visit the whale museum and go on a  whale watching cruise. Drive around the mountainous peninsula Tjörnes and visit Ásbyrgi & Dettifoss National Park where there are many short and long hiking options.

Day 8: TRAVEL EAST (240-300 km/150-186 miles)
Travel east over Jökuldalsheiði moorland plateau, lava and sand desert. Egilsstaðir is the center of East Iceland, located at Lögurinn Lake and not far from Hallormsstaður woods and Hengifoss, Iceland's 2nd highest waterfall. Overnight in East Iceland.

Day 9: BORGARFJÖRÐUR EYSTRI (140 km/87 miles)
Explore the northernmost fjord on the East Fjord mountain range. The isolated village Bakkagerði has just 120 inhabitants and is a charming village, built snugly next to the steep mountainside. Driving to Borgarfjörður Eystri is dramatic and rewarding. The colourful mountains are simply unique and impressive. There is a great network of walking trails and bird watching belongs to the main activities in this area. If you prefer less driving, we suggest a tour around Lake Lögurinn to Hallormsstadur woods and Hengifoss waterfall.

Day 10: VATNAJÖKULL NATIONAL PARK (400 km/248 miles)
Travel the scenic route along the dramatic fjord landscape and fishing villages of East Iceland before reaching Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier and National Park. We recommend a boat tour between icebergs on Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and a short hike in Skaftafell National Park. The most popular walk is to Svartifoss waterfall. Overnight in Skaftafell or Kirkjubaejarklaustur area.

Day 11: SOUTH SHORE (240 km/144 miles)
A beautiful drive with many natural wonders awaits you today as you head across the Laki lava field, pass the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. The bird cliffs of Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara are simply amazing. We recommend also a stroll on the black lava beaches of Vík. 2 nights in Hella/Selfoss area.

Day 12: THJÓRSÁRDALUR (170 km/105 miles)
Thjórsárdalur valley is well-known for its numerous excavations of old viking farms, which were buried by the ash of an eruption of Hekla volcano in the year 1104. The farm at Stöng is especially worth seeing. In this area are two beautiful waterfalls, Hjálparfoss that is easy to reach and Háifoss waterfall that is a bit off the beaten track. A short walk leads to the ravine Gjáin that offers a surrounding with waterfalls, lava formations and wonderful vegetation. This is an enchanting spot and not to be missed.
