Itinerary:

The Norway in a Nutshell ® is the most popular tours in Norway that takes you on a journey through some of Norway's most beautiful fjord scenery. You can experience the scenic Bergen Railway, the breathtaking Flåm Railway, the Aurlandsfjord, the narrow Nærøyfjord and the steep hairpin bends of Stalheimskleiva (May-September). The trip runs daily all-year-round and is available from Bergen, Voss and Oslo. The Bergen Railway is voted one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys. The train ride over Northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau, Hardangervidda, is spectacular and varied with view of the blue ice of the Hardangerjøkulen Glacier. The train journey on the Flåm Railway between Myrdal and Flåm is one of the highlights of the round trip. On the 12-mile long train ride, you will see some of the most magnificent mountain scenery Norway has to offer, with a shifting panorama of towering mountains and impressive waterfalls. On the fjord cruise, you travel passed the beautiful villages of Aurland and Undredal before the boat enters the Nærøyfjord, one of the narrowest fjords in Europe. This arm of the Sognefjord is perhaps the most dramatic fjord in Norway, and is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The Stalheimskleiva Road, which twists and turns up through 13 hairpin bends offering views of the Sivlefossen and the Stalheimsfossen waterfalls, is the steepest stretches of road in Northern Europe. Stalheimskleiva is open from May to September. In the winter months, the bus takes the new road to Voss.

Day 3  : Flam – Voss – Bergen

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure. Flåm is the beginning of an unforgettable 2-hour boat journey along the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord. Pass the fjord villages of Aurland and Undredal with Scandinavia's smallest Stave church, dating from 1147. Shortly after the Stigen mountain farm the boat will turn into the Nærøyfjord, the narrowest, most dramatic, and yet the most beautiful of the secondary fjords to the Sognefjord. Picturesque farms and villages are nestled along the steep mountainsides, reaching peaks up to 4500 ft. The cruise ends in Gudvangen. Continue with a 1-hour bus ride up the narrow Nærøy Valley, across the steep hairpin bends of the Stalheim Canyon Road, descending to the fjord village of Voss. Here you reconnect with the Bergenbanen arriving from Oslo and Myrdal, continuing to Bergen. A short train ride brings you to the colorful Hanseatic city of Bergen.

Overnight in Bergen (B)

Day 4  : Bergen

Spend the day exploring this enchanting maritime city. Take a city tour of Bergen and enjoy the Hanseatic Museum at Bryggen, St. Mary's Church, Korskirken Church, and The Rosenkrantz Tower. Visit the famous Fish & Flower Market and purchase local shrimp or salmon for a delicious snack, and if it is a clear day, ride the funicular up to Mt. Fløien for panoramic views of the city and fjord far below. You can ride the funicular back down, or do as the locals, walk back down.
