Quest for the Antarctic Circle Package
Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Peninsula, amazing wildlife, and immense icebergs.
Description:
Join us on a voyage of discovery to our planet's last great wilderness - Antarctica, a fabulous and virtually pristine paradise for wildlife with incomparable scenery. Our ice-strengthened expedition ship is ideally suited to cruising in this icy wilderness. The end result is more like a private expedition than a traditional cruise. Our goal is to cross the Antarctic Circle dependent on ice conditions. Cap off this unforgettable voyage with a visit to vibrant Buenos Aires. This trip is identical to our Quest for the Antarctic Circle expedition (XVQCSX) with the added inclusion of flights, transfers, tours, and extra days in Buenos Aires.
Day 1 Arrive Buenos Aires
Arrive in Buenos Aires at any time.
Day 2 Ushuaia (B)
Fly south from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. (Your flight is included in the package). Free afternoon in the world’s southernmost city.
Day 3-4 Ushuaia / Tierra del Fuego National Park / the Drake Passage (2B,1L,2D)
After a morning Tierra del Fuego National Park tour, embark on the expedition ship. Experience the stunning views of the Beagle Channel as you head towards Cape Horn before crossing the Drake Passage. Enjoy daily lectures from your expedition team, and keep an eye out for the first sightings of icebergs, whales, and albatross following in the ship's wake.
Day 5-7 The Antarctic Peninsula & the South Shetland Islands (3B,3L,3D)
Experience some of the most unique wildlife viewing and inspiring scenery in the world as you set foot on the Antarctic continent. Attempt two shore landings per day (weather conditions permitting), and encounter Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adélie penguin rookeries, Weddell, Crabeater and Leopard seals, as well as Orca, Humpback and Minke whales in the cold Antarctic waters. The Peninsula also has a remarkable human history. During the voyage we will learn about some of the most important and dramatic expeditions to this remote corner of the world.
Day 8-9 The Polar Circle Crossing (2B,2L,2D)
We set off southward along the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, passing colossal icebergs and countless colonies of penguins along the way.
Day 10-12 The Antarctic Peninsula & the South Shetland Islands (3B,3L,3D)
We will then turn north for the first time and head back through the 'inside passage' (depending on weather conditions) to continue our exploration of the Antarctic peninsula.
Day 13-14 The Drake Passage (2B,2L,2D)
Begin the journey north back to Ushuaia. Enjoy great meals and reflect on our memorable adventure during our final two days at sea. Review the highlights of our Antarctic experience with our lecturers and staff, and keep your eyes open on the observation deck for some final whale sightings.
Day 15 Ushuaia / Buenos Aires (B)
Disembark after breakfast and transfer by bus to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. (Flight is included in the package).
Day 16 Buenos Aires (B,D)
Today is free to explore Buenos Aires, known as the Paris of the Americas. Wander the plazas and museums or sit at a local cafe and reminisce about your Antarctic experience. In the evening join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner and traditional Tango show.
Day 17 Depart Buenos Aires (B)
Depart at your leisure.
