Day 1  : Welcome to Iceland

Upon arrival, your guide and bus will be waiting for you at the airport ready to take you on a tour of Reykjavik. City tour with lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to domestic airport, short flight to Akureyri, the capital of the North. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. Overnight in Akureyri (L)

Day 2  : Siglufjörður

Today we will explore the beautiful Siglufjord on our way to Siglufjörður. The town grew up around the herring industry that was very strong in the 1940s and 1950s. Herring fishing is no longer productive in the region.

The Síldarminjasafnið herring museum
The largest marine and industrial museum in Europe. It is housed in three widely differing premises where the visitor can become acquainted with the pursuit of the "silver darlings" and the processing of that valuable commodity. Síldarminjasafnið received the European Museums Award, the Michletti Award, in 2004.

After a delicious fish and chips lunch at the Siglo hotel restaurant we will be ready for an easy 1-2 hour hike in the area.

Troll Peninsula Hiking
The area around Siglufjordur is a hiking lover's paradise. This part of Iceland has some of the best hiking in the country. It is surrounded by the mountains of Trollaskagi, also called the Troll Peninsula. Trollaskagi is Iceland's longest mountain range, and many parts of it are protected. Trails range from easy paths to hard mountain tops. Along the way, you can enjoy amazing views and beautiful nature. Small glaciers, beautiful mountain lakes and valleys are just some of the beautiful things you can see here.

Overnight in Akureyri (B, L)

Options: Beer Spa- $320 per person
Day 3  : Husavik

After breakfast, we will drive to Húsavík, a town on the north coast of Iceland on the shores of Skjálfandi bay. The most famous landmark of the town is the wooden church Húsavíkurkirkja, built in 1907. Húsavík has become a centre of whale watching in Iceland due to whales of different species that frequently enter the bay. The Húsavík Whale Museum is located in the town centre by the harbour.

Whales and Puffins Tour by Boat
In this real wildlife adventure, you can watch whales and puffins at the same time! You might say hello to humpbacks, minkes, and other whales, and you'll probably see more puffins than you can count. We begin the tour by sailing to Puffin Island, which is not far from Husavik. Over 100,000 puffins stay on Puffin Island every summer. During the summer, the island is full of life. It's a lot of fun to watch these funny little birds nest, fly around, and dive for food. The crew has a lot of knowledge about the birds and animals in the area, and they are happy to share it with passengers.

Next, we'll go out to the whale-watching area, where we'll stay for the rest of the tour. Every year, a lot of whales come to the Bay to eat in the water. Getting close to these amazing animals is a feeling that is hard to describe.

Lunch at a local restaurant in Husavik.

Saltvik Seaside Horse Ride
The tour offers a great ride along the coast near Husavk with a great view of the bay of Skjálfandi (the world of whales) and a nice, easy ride up to the hills above Salfarm farm. We do our best to find the right horse for each rider. Our horses are strong, safe, and well-trained. All tours are led by someone from Saltvik, who tells you everything you need to know about the ride before the tour starts.  This tour is suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders!

Overnight in Akureyri (B, L)

Day 4  : Lake Myvatn Area (158 mi)

Highland Desert – Bizarre Lava Formations – Geothermal & Volcanic Activity

Breakfast at your hotel. Explore the empty vastness of the highland desert plateau Modrudalsoraefi, desolate and yet hauntingly beautiful, as you head towards the Lake Myvatn area. On the way, stop at Dettifoss, Europe's largest and most powerful waterfall. Continue onwards to the Namaskard pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colors. We often feel like we are visiting another planet when we come here, and you may the same way. It’s such a surreal experience!

Explore the natural beauty of the Lake Myvatn area, including the pseudo craters at Skutustadir and the Laxa salmon river. You will probably see why this area has become so popular for film producers.

You will spend some relaxing time at Lake Myvatn natural baths and return to Akureyri.

Overnight in Akureyri (B, L)

Day 5  : Akureyri - Reykjavik / Golden Circle (137 mi)

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Transfer to the airport. Short flight to Reykjavik.

Golden Circle Tour
Our next destination is famous Golden Circle of Icelandic Natural Wonders. We will explore the "Golden Waterfall" Gullfoss and the nearby hot spring area with famous Geysir and Strokkur hot springs, and many other boiling mud pools and smaller hot springs. Continue our drive along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss.

Overnight in Vik (B, D)

Day 6  : Vik – Skaftafell National Park – Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon (177 mi)

Lava Fields – Glacial Lagoon with Icebergs – Europe's Largest Glacier

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will be in a world of glaciers! You’ll be visiting the southern area of Vatnajokull National Park, named after Europe’s largest glacier. The total park area covers almost 14% of Iceland, making it the largest national park in Western Europe. Drive through vast sand plains created by glacial outwashes as you head east. Visit the national park’s famous Skaftafell area, a site of outstanding natural beauty. Enjoy the views of rich green landscapes and black sands dominated by several magnificent glaciers. You’ll also see Svinafellsjokull, one of the most beautiful glacial “tongues” that are slowly creeping down from Vatnajokull.

Visit Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon where you’ll enjoy the breath-taking sight of icebergs floating in the fantastic 180m (591 ft.) deep glacial lagoon. Make sure that camera is charged and ready! Nearby is the dramatic beauty of the Diamond Beach, named for the shrinking icebergs that settle on the black sands before drifting out to sea.

Overnight in Vik (B, D)

Options: Amphibian Boat - $50 per person
Day 7  : South Shore - Reykjavik (119 mi)

Drive along the south shore, an area of Iceland that is beautiful to view in the winter. This is one of the main farm regions of the country, and the road will pass by typical Icelandic farms, often with Icelandic horses in the fields.

Stop at the spectacular waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Head onwards, passing by Myrdalsjokull Glacier, to visit Reynisfjara beach. Take a walk on the black sands, and admire the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Super Jeep Ride and Katla Caves
Katlatrack Ice Cave team will meet you in Vik. Then, you'll take a beautiful and exciting 30- to 60-minute super jeep ride to the secret area of one of our 13 glaciers. Once you get to the glacier area, you will get gear like a helmet, headlamp, and crampons, and our local guide will talk to you about safety, what to expect, and other things.

You will take a short hike through a beautiful glacier area to get to the natural ice cave. Our guide will always pick the easiest and safest way to go. Since the glacier is always moving, the path and the way the ice cave looks can change from day to day. This makes each tour a unique experience! No one else would see the natural ice cave the way you do. We would always make sure you had enough time to explore the glacier area and take lots of photos to make this day memorable.

When the tour was over, our guide from Vik, Iceland, will tell you more about how the ice cave was made and answer any questions you might have. After giving you plenty of time to take pictures and selfies, we walk back out and take off our gear. Then it's time to take you to Reykjavik

Overnight in Reykjavik (B, D)

Day 8  : Reykjavik - Fagradalsfjall volcano (120 mi)

Fagradalsfjall Volcano tour
Get picked up after breakfast and head to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the last volcanic eruption happened. Your guide will walk you up to the new Fagradalsfjall Volcano and tell you everything you need to know about it. On this day trip you will explore the lava fields at the Fagradalsfjall volcano. As you hike up the volcano with a local guide, you can look out over the lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Enjoy a hike that is somewhere between easy and hard, with rocky terrain and steep slopes. Make sure you have the right shoes for hiking so you can stay stable on the trail.

When you get there, look at the crater where the lava came from. Continue hiking around the Fagradalsfjall Volcano until you find the best place to sit and take in the view before heading back down.
