Pick up from your accommodation in Reykjavik and travel about 30 minutes by car to Hveragerði in South Iceland, where you will stay at Hotel Örk for the next 3 nights. Today we hike in a unique rocky landscape that might belong to trolls and elves and it feels like being in the middle of a "Lord of the Rings" scene. We explore one of the most spectacular lava formations that the Hengill volcanic area has to offer on paths less traveled and in unspoiled nature. We hike through a beautiful valley covered in grass and surrounded by colorful mountains. When conditions are good, we enjoy an amazing view from the top. The tour ends at Nesjavellir where geothermal steam from the ground is used to produce electricity.
Hiking time: 6-7 hours including stops
Hiking Distance: 12 km (7,5 miles) / Elevation: about 650 meters

The main purpose of this tour is to take a wilderness bath in a geothermal river up in the mountains and enjoy the magnificent nature. You will witness huge geothermal springs while hiking through Reykjadalur valley, which is known for beautiful and rough nature.
Hiking time: 5-6 hours including stops
Hiking Distance: 7 km (4,4 miles) / Elevation: about 500 meters

Guided day tour to Thorsmork valley and hike in the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull & Fimmvörðuháls volcanoes, reaching the 2010 eruption site at the top of Fimmvörðuháls volcano. Thorsmork is a nature reserve at the foot of the majestic Eyjafjallajökull volcano and Mýrdalsjökull glacier, and a truly unique valley with its rugged nature. For thousands of years glaciers and glacial rivers have carved out this spectacular valley, creating a very dramatic landscape of sandstone sculptures, deep canyons and sharp ridges. It is a spectacular sight never forgotten. To reach this secluded highland valley and to drive across unabridged glacial rivers we need a modified 4x4 vehicle and an experienced guide. The tour begins with a drive along the beautiful south coast to Seljalandsfoss and passes the Gígjökull glacier where we see first-hand the results of the destructive power of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. There in 2010 a massive flood of melt water and small ice burghs from the volcanic crater ripped the glacier to shreds and flooded the area completely.
Continuing onwards our destination is the Básar cabin where we take off on our 6-8 hour hike up and down the Fimmvörðuháls volcanoes. The ascend is between 700-800 meters. This spectacular trail of approximately 16 km, through Iceland´s varied landscape, encompassing views on glaciers, snow-capped mountains, new brand craters and lava, volcanoes and the most surreal beauty of Thorsmork. This challenging hike offers an unforgettable trekking experience and the feeling of solitude and natural beauty.
To make sure the belongings stay dry please pack everything in a water and dust proof travel sack. Fragile items such as cameras should packed in proper cases/bags. We highly recommend not to carry with you computers or others valuable devices while hiking or doing any other outdoor activities as run the risk of getting wet or damaged. This tour is for real hikers and nature lovers. We take you to the site of the volcano eruption from 2010 where the lava is still warm!
Hiking time: 6-8 hours including stops
Hiking Distance: 16 km (10 miles) Elevation: about 800 meters (this is a moderate to challenging hike)

This is a beautiful hiking tour with a great view, where you will reach the highest top of the rocky volcanic Hengill area which is 805 meter above sea level. From the top you will see spectacular landscape including Þingvellir national park, where the continental plates of Europe and America meet. On our way up we will travel through a rocky volcanic environment and on our way down we will come into a big valley of grass where we will take a look at a geothermal area and perhaps take a foot bath, and finish our lunch. Most of the tour will be on roads/paths less traveled. In the late afternoon transfer back to Reykjavík. (Accommodation not included).
