Breakfast at the hotel before departure from Oslo Central station for the morning train from Oslo to Myrdal on the Bergen Line. The Bergen Railway is a unique Northern Europe's highest-altitude railway line. This train ride, voted one of the 20 best in the world, takes you over Norway’s “mountainous rooftop” and through charming villages like Gol and Geilo. In Myrdal, you’ll switch trains to the Flåm Railway - just cross the platform. Then start your journey on the famous Flamsbanen Railway. The train journey provides some of Norway's wildest and most magnificent scenery. On the 20 km-long train ride you can see rivers that cut through deep ravines, waterfalls cascade down the side of steep, snow-capped mountains and mountain farms cling dizzily to sheer slopes.
Beautiful Flåm is situated in the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the 204 kilometres long and up to 1308 metres deep Sognefjord. Surrounded by steep mountainsides, roaring waterfalls and deep valleys, Flåm is a small piece of paradise. After a short time in Flåm board the express boat from Flåm to Balestrand. Cruise the beautiful Sognefjord, with the chance to see tall, impressive mountains. Out towards the sea, the scenery becomes more open and there is plentiful and varied bird life.
On arrival in Balestrand walk to your hotel, it is just a short distance from the boat. Balestrand is a delightful and traditional small resort town beside the shores of the Sognefjord, and is noted for its magnificent scenery and pure, clean air. After breakfast start a daylong excursion to the beautiful Fjærland village. Board the boat at the Balestrand pier for a lovely cruise on the Fjærland fjord to Flærland. Visit the Glacier Museum before going by bus to Supphellebreen and Bøyabreen glaciers. Arrive back at the Fjærland pier for your cruise back to Balestrand. In the morning take a short walk back to the pier for a beautiful cruise on the Sognefjord, passing waterfalls, small towns and farms. Arrive in Bergen harbor (Bryggen), mid-day, and walk to your hotel. Bergen is a lively city beautifully situated on the fjord & surrounded by 7 mountains, with a long history as a Hanseatic trading port. Walk along Bergen harbor, the historic old wharf area with timbered houses, formerly the homes and warehouses of merchants, explore the fish and flowers markets and enjoy a meal in one of the many cafes and restaurants of this lovely historic Hanseatic town. Spend the day exploring this enchanting maritime city. Take a city tour of Bergen and enjoy the Hanseatic Museum at Bryggen, St. Mary's Church, Korskirken Church, and The Rosenkrantz Tower. Visit the famous Fish & Flower Market and purchase local shrimp or salmon for a delicious snack, and if it is a clear day, ride the funicular up to Mt.
