Autumn Colors in Ilulissat and Nuuk

Ilulissat City Walk (included)

In the morning, explore Ilulissat on foot with a local guide and get an introduction to this colorful Greenlandic town and its way of life. Walk through the historic center, past traditional wooden houses, the old harbor, and the local church, while learning about Ilulissat’s history, culture, fishing traditions, and life in a community surrounded by ice.

The walk also offers beautiful views over Disko Bay, where fishing boats and icebergs are often part of the scenery. Your guide will share stories about daily life in Greenland and point out some of the town’s most interesting places and viewpoints. It is an easy-paced introduction to Ilulissat and a good way to get oriented before exploring the surrounding Icefjord and glaciers.

Evening Icefjord Sailing

Set out from your hotel for an unforgettable evening sailing among the enormous icebergs of Ilulissat Icefjord. As the boat slowly makes its way into Disko Bay, you’ll see icebergs of all shapes and sizes drifting out from the glacier, some towering high above the water. 

The evening light creates a particularly magical atmosphere, illuminating the ice in shades of white and blue and casting reflections across the calm water. Keep an eye out for whales, seals, and seabirds that are often seen in the bay during the summer months.

The sailing is relaxed and unhurried, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, take photographs, and simply experience the remarkable silence of Greenland’s icy landscape. Depending on the season and weather, the late evening light can make this one of the most memorable experiences of your stay in Ilulissat.

Day Trip to Eqi Glacier with Lunch (included)

Spend a day exploring the spectacular Eqi Glacier, one of Greenland’s most impressive calving glaciers. Travel by boat from Ilulissat along the coast, passing dramatic mountains, remote settlements, and icebergs drifting through the fjord.

As you approach the glacier, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Eqi is known for the thunderous sound of ice breaking away from the glacier and crashing into the water below. The boat will stop at a safe viewing distance, giving you time to watch the glacier, take photographs, and enjoy the magnificent surroundings.

Enjoy lunch with a view of the glacier before beginning the return journey to Ilulissat. The day is as much about the journey as the destination, with spectacular Arctic scenery throughout the cruise.

Hike to the Ice Fjord and the Abandoned Sermermiut Settlement (included)

Beautiful icebergs provide the setting for the old settlement of Sermermiut, 1.5 kilometers south of Ilulissat. For 4,000 years, different Inuit cultures lived in the settlement and, today, you can still see the remains, which indicate their former presence.

Hear the story about the life of the Inuit people and their traditions before the Europeans came to Greenland. See the ruins and touch the permafrost with your own hands. Visitors often ask if they can walk these treks themselves? The answer is yes. But it is our experience that most people prefer having a guide with them the first time they hike in Greenlandic nature.

Furthermore, historic places will be pointed out on the way, and these can be difficult to find on your own.  You will have a coffee or tea break at “Kællingekløften” with a beautiful view of the Ice Fjord before you head back.

Whale Safari (included)

It is a great experience to get close to large animals like whales. There are 15 species of whale in Greenland. During the summer it is normally the humpback, the common minke whale and the fin whale, we see. The whales swim the entire Disko Bay during the summer; sometimes close to the town, sometimes in the ice fjord or up north by the island, Arveprinsens Ejland.

We are in constant radio contact with the fishermen and the hunters about the whales and their whereabouts. The humpback, with its characteristic fin, is the one we see most often.

Later, it is time to get ready for the next optional excursion. The midnight sun makes the days very long, and you will feel full of energy to explore and take advantage of the entire day.

The sunny nights can only be experienced north of the Arctic Circle where the sun during summer never sets behind the horizon. In Ilulissat, the midnight sun is present from May 22 to July 24, but also throughout August, there will be very bright nights.

Enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure in Ilulissat. Take some time for a leisurely breakfast, explore the town on your own, or simply enjoy the views of Disko Bay before your departure.

Later, transfer to Ilulissat Airport for your flight to Nuuk, Greenland’s capital. Upon arrival in Nuuk, meet your local driver and transfer to your hotel. Check in and settle into your new surroundings, with the remainder of the day free to explore Nuuk at your own pace.

Nuuk City Walk

Start the day with a guided walking tour of Nuuk, Greenland’s capital. Discover the historic heart of the city, see the old colonial harbor, colorful traditional houses, and important landmarks, while learning about Greenlandic culture, history, and everyday life.

After the morning walk, the rest of the day is free for you to enjoy Nuuk at your own pace. Visit the Greenland National Museum, browse the local shops and cafés, explore the harbor, or simply take in the views of the mountains and fjords. Alternatively, choose from a variety of optional excursions and activities, such as a boat trip, a wildlife or whale-watching excursion, or a hike in the surrounding landscape.

Northern Lights Safari

In the evening, join us on an atmospheric evening excursion and experience one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena – the Northern Lights! On clear, polar nights, we have the opportunity to see the dancing green waves light up the sky above Ilulissat. We drive out to a place away from the city lights where we enjoy the view of the starry sky and listen to stories about the Northern Lights, old legends, and Arctic myths. The tour is only conducted in clear weather. We will cancel the same day if clouds cover the sky and find a new date. We will refund the full amount if you can’t join us on another day. Even if the weather is clear, the Northern Lights can be unpredictable.

Enjoy one final day in Greenland. In the evening fly back to Reykjavik. Shuttle transfer to the airport is included.
