Rovaniemi Excursions

DURATION: 2:00-2:30 HOURS (2 persons per sledge)
The barking of enthusiastic dogs will welcome you to the most genuine Husky farm in Rovaniemi. The head musher will talk about the life and training of these Arctic animals and you will also have the chance to take some great photos. After brief instructions and riding in pairs, you embark on a run through the forest behind your pack of huskies. After the trip there is time to visit the farm and enjoy a traditional outdoor lunch of Lappish sausage grilled on the campfire followed by Lappish pancakes.
The day continues with a visit to the world famous Santa Claus Village, built right on the Arctic Circle and home to Santa Claus. Stop by his busy post office where you can ask Santa to send a letter to your loved ones just before Christmas. Take a step into the magical world of Santa’s home and meet Santa himself. No words can describe the feelings provoked during this moment from a fairy-tale. It is something you will always remember. A must for any visit to Lapland. From Santa Claus Village it is a short trip to the hotel for check in. The rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure.

This excursion takes you to the Aurora Borealis camp located approximately10 kms away from the citylights with unlimited view to the northern sky. At the resort you will find the Aurora Borealistheatre builtinside a massive snow igloo, presenting a film about the myths and facts of thisnatural phenomenon along with spectacular photos of the Northern lights. You will also havetime to roam around the resort, take a brisk sleigh ride with snowmobile drawn sleigh, or you can just lay back in snow observatory by the open fire admiring the northern sky. And don’t forget to enjoy the traditional reindeer burgers in the Kota (teepee) made by the open fire. Remember to bring your own camera! With a little luck the sky is clear and the moon, stars and even the Northern Lights may show up. Your guide will have tips on how to catch the Auroras with your camera, and also tripods are available!

This incredible experience includes a guided tour of the ship with its massive engine room, communications room and bridge, ice swimming and a three course meal at the on-board restaurant. In the middle of the largest ice field in Europe, you have the opportunity to jump in the sea and float! You will of course be fitted with a warm survival suit and those who dare will also be presented with a certificate by the ship authorities. An unforgettable experience. Return to Rovaniemi with early evening arrival at your hotel.

Do not miss this unique opportunity to visit and dine in this idyllic igloo, which only opens its doors for special events. During this evening you will enjoy a dinner with local specialties and then sit on the white patio, around a bonfire, waiting for the Aurora Borealis. Snowland has been built in the vicinity of the city but with the purpose of offering the best conditions to appreciate the dance of the Aurora Borealis when it announces its arrival on the clear nights of Rovaniemi.

During this brisk safari you can just sit back and enjoy the view and ride! Your guide will take you up to the fell district to see the beautiful hilltop scenery with unlimited views of the northern sky. At 22h00 take a transfer from the hotelto a Special New Year Venue 20 minutesfromtown. At Lapland’s magical border of the Arctic Circle, the festivities will be held for welcoming in the New Year. Fire, ice, darkness, snow, lights, music, dance are the combined elements that create amagical event for the whole family.
The mysterious shamans fuel the atmosphere as the New Year approaches Santa Claus himselfwill also pay us a visit! A giant snow disco, snow bars, massive fireworks display and the spectacularNew Year Dance Show definitely conjure up a memorable entirety.New Year’s tin casting is an old Finnish tradition to see what the future holds. Shamans -the fortunetellers help you to interpret the marks for the future in your tin. The event will take place by snowybanks, in idyllic winter setting.

Begin feeling the Christmas atmosphere with a buffet dinner at your hotel, consisting of Lappish food. The Hotel alsooffers traditional Finnish sauna in the evening.

At approximately 16:00, children will have the opportunity to decorate the Christmas tree.
Around 18:00 Santa Claus will pay you a visit at the hotel and will deliver gifts to our young guests. Families will also have the possibility to have Santa Claus deliver one gift of their own to their children.
Christmas Eve Gala Dinner buffet will be served at the hotel Santa Claus. Included are an aperitif and two glasses of house wine, beer or soft drink.

AURORA SKY DRIVE – To the wilderness by car/coach
The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are possible to be observed in the Polar zone of the world. The location of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle gives us the best possibilities to try and see them. A local guide will drive you out of the city reaching the perfect spots offering us the best open sky vision to enjoy the Lappish picnic, hopefully under the Auroras. Everyone will try to fun walk with snow shoes and we will share some nice moment around the fire, with stories about Lapland.
