An Unforgettable Husky Safari Adventure in Tromsø, Norway

Undoubtedly, one of the most incredible things you can do in the Arctic is a husky safari in Tromsø! Picture yourself darting at top speeds, yanked forward by a team of lively huskies through a winter wonderland of snow-capped mountains and fjords. It’s a combination of adventure, nature, and pure happiness — and you’re spending time with some of the most spirited dogs you’ll ever encounter!

This is how it goes:

You will be picked up in Tromsø and driven to a husky kennel in the heart of the Arctic wilderness. As soon as you come, you’ll meet the dogs barking and jumping, excited because they love running! You’ll get some time to pet them, snap photos, and absorb the sheer energy of these furry athletes.

Before setting off, the guides will teach you the basics of mushing (i.e., steering the sled). It’s actually quite simple: one person sits in the back, steering the sled, while the other sits back and enjoys the ride in the front. Don’t fret — you’ll swap positions halfway through, so everyone gets a chance behind the wheel!

And then, off you go! The huskies leap forward, and suddenly, you’re racing across the Arctic tundra. It is silent other than the sled gliding over the top of the snow, the dogs panting, and possibly a “WOOHOO” now and then from you. The scenery is unreal — endless white lands, rising mountains, and, if you’re lucky, perhaps the Northern Lights if you’re on an evening tour.

After the ride, you’ll go inside a cozy cabin or a traditional Sami tent for hot chocolate, coffee, and Norwegian snacks (think warm pastries or flatbread). This is also the best time to cuddle with the huskies, take pictures, and chat with the mushers about their lives in the Arctic.

Husky sledding at its finest happens in winter (Nov–April) when there is plenty of snow. Other times of the year, sledding is out, but you can go hiking with huskies, visit the kennels, and train dogs.

Bonus Options:
Northern Lights Husky Safari – Sledding beneath a sky of swirling auroras?
Overnight Experience — Sleep in a cabin, enjoy dinner around the campfire, and wake up to huskies wagging their tails.
So, whether you’re a dog lover, adventure junkie, or simply after a once-in-a-lifetime Arctic experience, a husky safari in Tromsø is pure magic.
