This voyage reveals a diverse array of natural wonders and the Icelandic way of life. A range of exciting shore excursions offers countless ways to interact with Iceland’s culture, nature, history, and people.

Tour Itinerary

Our optional Air & Ground package provides a convenient arrival. Use your leisure time in Reykjavik to discover the unique charm of the world’s northernmost capital and book one of our pre-programs (prices for 2024 on request). Or explore the sights of south and west Iceland on a self-drive road trip (prices upon request). The SEAVENTURE docks in Old Reykjavik Harbor in the heart of the city, a five-minute stroll from the main squares, shopping and dining. The ship departs in the evening.

Depending on the weather Arnarstapi or Grundarfjordur is the starting point of our adventures on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Often called “Iceland in Miniature” because of its diverse landscapes, the area is home to bird-rich Breidafjordur Bay and Snaefellsjokull glacier. This glacier sits atop of a 700,000-year-old dormant volcano that was featured in the Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Today‘s destination is Isafjordur, an idyllic town in the Westfjords region. This secluded peninsula is connected to the Icelandic mainland by only a narrow strip of land and includes many roadless areas where cars have never been. The landscape includes jaw-dropping views of dramatic fjords carved by ancient glaciers, sheer table mountains that plunge into the sea and pristine North Atlantic vegetation.

In the morning we visit Flatey Island. It´s a natural haven for birdlife and home to the arctic tern and puffins, which can be observed at close quarters. In the early afternoon we steam further into the Skjalfandi Bay and visit Husavik.

Husavik is often called the “Whale watching capital” of Iceland, the town’s offshore waters are home to 15 different whale species, as well as dolphins and 30 varieties of birds. Watching these graceful ocean giants in their Arctic habitat is an unforgettable experience.

Iceland’s East Fjords are best explored from the impossibly picturesque port of Seydisfjordur, nestled between the sea and steep mountains. Optional activities include seal spotting, horseback riding, and visiting the beautiful sights of the Eastfjords

The fishing village of Djupivogur is today’s starting point to explore Vatnajokull Glacier (optional). Go on a four wheel-drive Jeep tour (optional) or take a boat trip in the Jokulsarlon glacier Lagoon (optional). Icebergs of all shapes and sizes are floating in the water - an unforgettable adventure.

Located off Iceland’s South Coast, the Westman Islands were formed by submarine volcanic eruptions around 10,000 years ago. We go ashore on Heimaey, the only inhabited island, where half-buried houses remain from a violent 1973 eruption.

After breakfast we bid farewell to the SEAVENTURE as we sail back into Reykjavik. Optionally there is the possibility to book our Air & Ground package. The trip is then extended by one night in Reykjavik and includes the bus excursion Adventure South Coast, where you get to know fascinating natural wonders, such as the waterfall Skogafoss or the black beach Reynisfjara with its basalt formations. You can also book one of our post programs to discover more of Iceland, e.g. on a car tour through South and West Iceland (on request).

Please note: If you book return flights on your own please choose a connection that does not depart before noon from Keflavik airport on the same day the SEAVENTURE arrives in Reykjavik.

My husband and I have just returned from an amazing holiday in Iceland. We booked through DORA at Nordic Saga. Everything went smoothly and we got the cabin we wanted. We did a circumnavigation of Iceland on a small cruiseship, the Ocean Diamond, which was small enough to go down the fjords, right to the harbours of the small villages. It was an outstanding trip! I highly recommend it! The expedition crew on the Ocean Diamond were amazing! We were always given the best safety gear for our excursions (helmets, goggles, survival suits, life jackets, etc.). Every day was an adventure! We visited waterfalls, geysers, lagoons, fishing villages, volcanic craters, museums, nature baths, geo-thermal pools, glaciers, and icebergs, and much more. We rode Icelandic horses, went whale watching, saw puffins, eider ducks, black guillemots (with red feet!), and arctic turns. We had rides in zodiac boats, RIB boats (Rigid Inflatable Boats) and amphibian boats. Everywhere we went, experienced guides explained the historical background and told us interesting sagas of Iceland. We loved SKYR, the Icelandic yogurt. The scenery in Iceland is beautiful and dramatic, from mountains covered in purple lupines to black lava sand beaches. Everything in Iceland is very, very, very, very, expensive! i am glad that all our meals were included with our ship. The days were were away for lunch, they gave us a picnic brown bag lunch. We stayed a couple of extra nights at the beginning and end of our cruise and stayed in hotels which were 'tired' or had small rooms or shared bathrooms and no elevators; not Canadian standards. Just be aware. The circumnavigation covered most of Iceland but we took an additional land tour to see The Golden Circle and it was amazing! We were amazed by the 24 hours of sunlight! Nordic Saga provided all the information and paperwork that we needed. We had an excellent vacation and I have a beautiful red hooded Icelandic sweater to keep me warm next winter!
