Royal Capitals of Scandinavia

Tour Itinerary

Arrival in Stockholm according to your own schedule and transfer on your own to your hotel.

Stockholm is often called the Venice of the North because of its many canals and waterways. We can recommend a guided boat tour on the canals or to visit some of the many interesting museums Stockholm has to offer. Your tour escort will meet you at 18.00 hrs in the hotel lobby for a short introduction. Dinner on your own.

  • Clarion Hotel Sign

Breakfast at your hotel. Discover Stockholm during a 4 hours city sightseeing with a local guide and private coach. Main sights of interest are the old town (Gamla Stan), the Royal Palace, the Parliament buildings, the Island of Djurgården and the City Hall with its famous golden and blue halls (entrance to City Hall included).

Afternoon free in Stockholm. We can recommend a visit to the impressive Vasa Museum or the popular ABBA museum. Dinner on your own.

  • Clarion Hotel Sign

Transfer by private coach to the railway station in Stockholm. Board the SJ train which will take you to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Unfortunately, no luggage handling is possible at the train stations. Duration: Approx. 5 hours. A hot meal will be served on board and you’ll be travelling first class.

Arrival in Copenhagen and transfer by private coach to your hotel, located in the city center, close by the charming Nyhavn harbour, with numerous waterside restaurants and vintage sailing ships, and within a short walk to the Ströget pedestrian street. Dinner on your own.

  • Phoenix Copenhagen Hotel

Breakfast at your hotel, followed by a 3 hours sightseeing tour of Copenhagen with a local guide and private coach. Sights of interest are the Christiansborg palace, the Royal theatre, the City Hall, the Royal palace Amalienborg, the old harbour of Nyhavn, the Little Mermaid, the Gefion fountain and the Rosenborg castle (no entrances included).

Afternoon free in Copenhagen. We can recommend a tour down the popular pedestrian shopping street – Strøget, or a visit to Rosenborg Palace. In the harbour by “Ofelia Plads”, just a 3 minutes walk from Nyhavn, you can join a canal cruise on board one of the smaller boats belonging to “Hey Captain” for a more personal and social cruise experience. You might also be interested in visiting the famous Tivoli Gardens (afternoon activities and entrances not included).

  • Phoenix Copenhagen Hotel (superior room)

Free morning in Copenhagen for shopping and sightseeing. We recommend a guided boat tour on the canal. Afternoon transfer by private coach to DFDS Seaways terminal for your overnight cruise to Oslo, departing at approx. 15.00 hrs. We recommend bringing an overnight bag for this cruise, to avoid having to carry suitcases to and from the cabin. Luggage can easily be stored in luggage container before boarding (coach will stop right by the container).

Enjoy dinner on board as you cruise gently north between Denmark and Sweden on your way to Oslo. There is dancing and entertainment on board, or you may prefer to sit out on deck and watch the sunset.

Scandinavian buffet breakfast is being served on board as you sail up the scenic Oslo Fjord to reach the Norwegian capital at 10.00 hrs. Explore Oslo on a 3 hours city sightseeing tour by private coach with a local guide and enjoy panoramic views of the Opera house, Karl Johans gate – Oslo’s main street, Old town Christiania, Akershus Castle and Fortress, and the Royal Palace.

Picturesque ride through some of Oslo’s prettiest neighborhoods to the Vigeland Park (entrance included) with its more than 200 sculptures.

Entrance is included to the Norwegian Folk Museum, an open air museum with 160 historic buildings with a main attraction being the Gol Stave Church from around 1200. They also have indoor exhibitions which feature Norwegian folk costumes, folk art, church art and Sami culture.

Afternoon free in Oslo. Oslo is a great choice to experience architecture, museums and other attractions. Take a stroll through the new central city district Bjørvika and walk between Oslo’s latest architectural additions; the Deichman Library and Munch Museum. We also recommend a stroll along Aker Brygge, a lively pier with numerous restaurants and departures for sightseeing boats on the Oslofjord.

Our Scandinavian tour was just fantastic. We got to experience the best of this beautiful part of the world in a short period of time. It was a bit of everything – amazing nature, good food, beautiful cities…. Our guide was terrific with her friendliness, knowledge and enthusiasm. All the hotels were very comfortable and good European standard. Overall, it was great experience! Thank you Nordic saga for arranging it for us.

We, and our adult children, enjoyed the entire experience . We learned and saw so much in a short time. Maria was a great resource and kept us moving through a packed itinerary in St Petersburg. I would like to have learned more about the post-Czar period but we were pretty busy as it was. Only drag was the sometime long lines and waiting at customs in each port.

Susie,
Just wanted to thank you for the amazing Scandinavian vacation we just returned from. No real glitches. The capitals are just wonderful. I think I could live in Stockholm or Oslo. The accommodations were wonderful and the guides did so much for us. I am sure that I will go back.(Viking boats from 800AD... I can’t wrap my mind around that.) Also, thanks for the assistance with my parents' insurance claim. They got all their money back with relatively no hassle. Thanks again for the very successful trip to Scandinavia. Be well.
