The Sognefjord is Norway’s longest and deepest fjord. It extends more than 200 km inland to the foot of the Jotunheimen mountains. It is one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world. The round trip combines a beautiful boat journey on the Sognefjord, with a spectacular train journey on the Flåm Railway. Sognefjord in a Nutshell cruise and tour itinerary can be easily done in one day or,if you want to explore at a slower pace, we can customize  your Sognefjord tour by adding overnights in Olso, Bergen, Flam and Balestrand and booking optional tours and activities in the fjords.

Day 1  : Arrival in Oslo

Transfer to the hotel

Arrive in Oslo, Norway’s Capital. Meet your private driver, who will take you to your hotel. Check-in to Hotel. Spend the afternoon relaxing or take a short walk along the harbor or the main shopping street, Carl Johan which leads up to the Royal Palace.  Overnight in Oslo.

Day 2  : Oslo

City Tour of Oslo

After breakfast your guide meets you in the lobby and takes you on a 4-hour tour of the Norwegian capital. Walk the ramparts of the 13th century Akershus Fortress, medieval residence of the royals with a coastal view. Discover the city’s main street Karl Johans gate, rich with Oslo’s highlights, where you can admire the likes of the 19th century Royal Palace, and see the surrounding 54-acre public green space known as Palace Park. View the 17th century Oslo Cathedral, admire some of the grandiose old university buildings, and venture over to Radhusplassen where you can view the Radhus, Oslo’s City Hall where the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held. Venture outside of the old center to The Vigeland Park, one of the major Scandinavian cultural treasures, and the world’s largest sculpture park dedicated to a single artist: Gustav Vigeland and his bizarre nude statues in granite and bronze. You’ll also get to step back in time on a visual journey to the Viking Age as you visit the city’s Viking Ship Museum, hosting thousand-year-old archaeological finds, along with the world-renowned complete Osberg ship. Overnight in Oslo (B)

Day 3  : Oslo – Myrdal – Flåm – Balestrand

Flam Railway, Aurlandsfjord, Sognefjord

Early Breakfast & check-out. Your luggage will be picked up at your hotel in Oslo and safely transferred to your hotel in Bergen while you travel all day through amazing Norway Fjords accompanied by your private tour guide. Private transfer to the train station. Depart Oslo on a scenic train ride in upgraded comfort class, passing towns and farm country as well as the highest point on the railway, Finse at 1222 meters above sea level.

In Myrdal, change to a train to Flam on the Flam Railway. The scenic 12-mile route between Myrdal and Flam is one of the steepest non-rack railway tracks in the world and an engineering marvel winding its way down to the picturesque village of Flåm. At one of the stops you can get off the train to take pictures of the waterfall above.

After a short break in Flam, take short walk to the pier where you board the boat that takes you out the narrow Aurlandsfjord, crossing the main Sognefjord, (the longest and deepest fjord in the world), to Balestrand. Check in to your hotel, a short walk from the pier. If you have time, take a stroll through this small town, visit the Aquarium (hosting local sea life) or the old wooden St. Olaf’s church, an English church. Overnight and dinner at the hotel in Balestrand (B, D)

Day 4  : Balestrand - Bergen

Sognefjord Cruise

Explore on your own or take a guided kayak tour on the emerald green waters of the Sognefjord.

In the evening, meet you escort guide & take a short walk back to the pier for a beautiful cruise on the Sognefjord, passing waterfalls, small towns and farms. Arrive in Bergen harbor and walk to your hotel. Overnight in Bergen (B)

Day 5  : Bergen

City Tour of Bergen

Meet your private guide in hotel lobby, setting out on a highlight walking tour of the colorful city of Bergen. You'll stroll through the old wharf area known as Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site revered for its Hanseatic commercial buildings, a nod to Bergen's former importance in the 14th-16th century Hanseatic League empire. Visit the town's traditional fish market, a lively and oddly picturesque area where the local catch has been traded for over 800 years. Discover small wooden houses from the 18th and 19th century, tucked away on charming streets and narrow alleyways, and enjoy a round-trip ride on the Floibanen funicular railway to the top of Mount Fløyen, offering magnificent views of the city below. Overnight in Bergen (B)
