Tour Itinerary

You’ll fly from Copenhagen to Nuuk, a 4.5-hour journey that marks the beginning of your 8-day winter adventure.

After checking in and unpacking at Hotel SØMA, your guide will hold an information meeting. Here you’ll get practical details about Nuuk, dining options, and available excursions. You can also confirm the activities you booked in advance or add new ones on the spot. Once the meeting is over, it’s time to explore Nuuk at your own pace and start gathering inspiration for the coming days.

With just 19,500 inhabitants, Nuuk may seem small, but it has the energy of a “big city” thanks to its role as Greenland’s capital and government center. The city is home to cultural venues, educational institutions, and a growing urban scene that now stretches about 10 kilometers end to end.

In winter, life doesn’t slow down. Nuuk offers concerts, theater, museums, exhibitions, and plenty of sports—skiing, hiking, sailing, yoga, and even swimming. The ski lift just outside the city is a favorite hangout for locals during the snowy season.

Fjord Adventure (included)
As we leave the harbor, the city unfolds from the water, giving a new perspective on its size and setting. Towering mountains line the fjord, rugged and dramatic, with occasional icebergs drifting by—smaller than those in Disko Bay, but no less mesmerizing. After enjoying a warm cup of coffee or tea on board, we continue deeper into the fjord, drawing closer to Sermitsiaq, Nuuk’s most famous landmark mountain. With a bit of luck, we may also spot some wildlife along the way.

Back in town, the evening is yours to enjoy.

Thrilling UTV Adventure in the Snowy Backcountry of Nuuk (included)
At 10:00 you’ll be picked up directly from your hotel and driven to the starting point, where powerful off-road UTVs await. Built for rugged terrain, these vehicles carry you deep into a silent winter wonderland of rolling snow-covered hills and peaceful valleys. The only sounds are the crunch of tires on snow—and bursts of laughter as you enjoy the ride. Along the way, the guide makes scenic stops so you can soak in the Arctic landscape, capture photos, and experience the sheer vastness of Greenland’s wilderness.

The adventure winds down at Inuk Hostels, beautifully perched with panoramic views of the fjord. Here, a warm welcome and a steaming bowl of homemade fish soup—prepared with local ingredients—await you. It’s the perfect way to round off a day of speed and scenery, blending Greenlandic hospitality with nature’s raw beauty.

Your journey continues north to the vibrant coastal town of Sisimiut, located just above the Arctic Circle. Upon arrival, the hotel bus will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to the comfortable 4-star Hotel Sisimiut, your base for the next five nights.

After check-in, join an information meeting with the local guide. Here, you’ll learn about the town, dining options, excursion opportunities, and the cultural life of Sisimiut. This is also the time to confirm or book additional excursions.

Sightseeing by Bus (included)

This cultural-historical tour introduces you to Sisimiut’s highlights and everyday life north of the Polar Circle:

  • Old Heliport – Once the only gateway to Sisimiut until 1998, today it serves as a dog kennel and a clubhouse for local youth.
  • Local Market – Browse stalls filled with freshly caught fish and game, an authentic taste of Greenland’s traditions.
  • Town Hall & Historic Houses – Pass the town hall on your way to visit original hunting and fishing houses still standing today.
  • Vantage Point – Stop at the town’s highest viewpoint for sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and fjords.
  • Old Town & Museum – Conclude in Sisimiut’s historic center, where 18th-century colonial buildings now house the town museum.

Winter Hiking (included)
You may be thinking, “Hiking again?” Yes—but this time with snowshoes! Snowshoeing is fun for all ages and requires no prior experience. Your guide will teach you how to use the snowshoes and poles before leading you into Sisimiut’s winter landscapes.

The hike begins near the town’s waterworks at the end of the famous Arctic Circle Trail, then continues along the mountainside toward Lake Nilliasup, one of Sisimiut’s two main sources of drinking water. In winter, the frozen lake allows us to cross directly southward and continue across a glacier-shaped moraine, a reminder of the immense power of Greenland’s ancient ice. Keep your eyes open for polar foxes and snow hares, who make their homes in this snowy wilderness. Depending on conditions, you may also notice traces of glacial activity along the mountainsides.
At the moraine’s end, we pause to admire spectacular views over the Davis Strait and the Polar Circle archipelago—a perfect spot for photos and a refreshing break. On the return, we cross another moraine toward Sisimiut’s cross-country ski trails and stop at Spejdersøen (Scouts’ Lake), the lively hub of winter activity, before making our way back to Hotel Sisimiut.

UTV Winter Safari (included)
You’ll ride in a giant sled—nicknamed the “monster trailer”—pulled by a powerful snowmobile into Sisimiut’s spectacular backcountry. This trip takes you through wide-open snowfields and playful winter landscapes, with several stops to soak in the silence, snap photos, and admire the raw beauty of Greenlandic nature. You’ll quickly notice the striking contrast between the edge of town and the untouched wilderness beyond. The route leads through Sisimiut’s winter playground and ends with a stop at a panoramic plateau. From here, enjoy sweeping views over Sisimiut town and the Davis Strait, a breathtaking reminder of how close civilization and Arctic wilderness coexist. Because the sled does all the work, this tour is suitable for everyone—just sit back, hold on, and enjoy the ride.

Four-Hour Dog Sled Ride (included)
Dog sledding is one of Greenland’s most authentic experiences. For thousands of years, hunters and their loyal sled dogs have worked side by side to survive and travel through this harsh yet breathtaking Arctic landscape. The sled dog remains an essential part of Greenlandic culture and was once the only way to move across the frozen, snow-covered terrain. On this tour, you’ll experience the magic of the dogs’ rhythm and the silence of the Arctic wilderness—broken only by the driver’s sharp commands echoing across the snow.

You’ll sit comfortably on the sled while soaking up the scenery, so be sure to dress warmly. The route leads to the foot of Niujarfik, a natural stopping point before the steep climb northeast of Sisimiut. Here, the driver pauses to rest and untangle the lines, giving you the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs, take photos, and admire the view.

Please note that polar clothing and boots are not included in the price, and each sled carries two passengers.

Intro to Snowmobiling and Trip to the Backcountry (included)
Have you never driven a snowmobile before? Not to worry! This tour is perfect for beginners. Your tour guide introduces you to basic driving skills, after which you start driving on a training track. With your newly acquired basic driving skills, you can safely go to the hinterland. The trip there is the hotel’s most popular snowmobile trip because it has a bit of it all. On the trip, you drive on long stretches, on smaller inclines, and tracks at a moderate pace through scenic paths into the mountains. The terrain is hilly and has good descents and climbs. In addition to the sense of excitement and freedom as you drive the snowmobile through the cool air, the absolute highlight of the trip is the spectacular view of the David Strait and the endless view of the rugged winter landscape of Qerrortusup Majoriaa. During the trip, there will be a longer stop to get a snack and something hot to drink and, of course, there will be lots of opportunities to take pictures.
