Guided City Walk Ilulissat, Welcome Dinner and Midnight Sailing
Take a 3-hour-long flight from Reykjavik to Ilulissat. Upon arrival transfer to the 4* Hotel Arctic. Check-in and welcome meeting followed by a guided citytour of Ilulissat with your local guide. Free time to explore the town, visit the local museum and watch Greenlandic life abt the harbor.
In the evening, welcome 2-course dinner at the hotel. Around 22:00 (10:00 pm) depart for a midnight sailing trip to the famous Ilulissat Icefiord. Enjoy the amazing natural show of lights in the largest ice sculpture park in the world, as you sip a late-night Martini on the real rocks. Return to the hotel around 1:00 am after midnight. Midnight Sun cruise operates approx. May 22-Jul 24. Outside this period we offer an evening cruise with the beautiful sunset with icebergs in the background.
Early morning breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we depart by a modern and comfortable tourist boat on a full-day trip to Eqi - the calving glacier. Eqi is one of the most beautiful places in Greenland, located 80 km north of Ilulissat. The frontage of the glacier is 3,4 km. We will cruise close to the glacier for around one hour and might get lucky to see the calving process. Later on, we continue to the small set, where we have a delicious two-course lunch including a glass of wine. We sail back to Ilulissat keeping our eyes open in the hopes to spot some local whales. Duration of the trip is 8 hours. Overnight in Ilulissat. (B, L)
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we drive by bus as far as the road allows. Then we take a guided hike to the Sermermiut valley on the famous Ilulissat Icefiordold. 1,5 km south of the town is the ancient settlement of Sermermiut that has been on the UNESCO's world heritage list since 2004. Situated 1.5 km south of the town, and surrounded by Ilulissat's icebergs, it's been home to various Inuit cultures for the past 4000 years. You can still see ancient remnants, learn about the local history before the arrival of the Europeans. The afternoon is free to hike along the Icerfiord and tour the town of Ilulissat on your own. Duration of the tour is 3 hours. Hiking boots are required.
In the evening, a 3-course farewell dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Ilulissat. (B, D)
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning - free time to explore the town of Ilulissat and enjoy some last minute Greenland shopping. Our short glacial adventure comes to an end as we fly back to Reykjavik in the afternoon. Overnight in Reykjavik.
