Itinerary:

Day 1  : Take the leap!

Approximate distance: ca 100 km / 62 miles

You did it! You've arrived in Iceland!

Your first task will be to collect your rental car and head into Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the World. After checking in to your hotel we recommend that you do some exploring - Who knows, you might even find that boot glass in one of the many great restaurants in the city.
Overnight in Reykjavik

Day 2  : No, this is not a daydream

Approximate distance: ca 330 km / 200 miles

Today you'll drive the "I'm on my way to a volcano" route eastwards from Reykjavik. The familiar water pipes will make you want to stop to take some photos but remember that you don't have much time to waste - So snap away and then get on your way to find the remarkable Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot spring area, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the infamous Eyjafjallajokull glacier (where the volcanic eruption in 2010 took place) and the cape of Dyrholaey - Just remember that this is not a daydream!
Overnight in Vik

Day 3  : The Purpose of Life

Approximate distance: ca 385 km / 240 miles

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
Let's just say that after having seen the shimmering icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon and experiencing the presence of Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe, there is a great chance you'll be sharing Eleanor Roosevelt's thoughts above.
Overnight in Vik

Day 4  : A human experience

Approximate distance: ca 400 km / 250 miles

Today you'll be able to draw your inspiration not only from nature but also from human experience! The historic sights of Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament and a jewel of nature, and Reykholt await. In Borgarfjordur you'll also witness the remarkably beautiful Hraunfoss and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe.
Before driving to the town of Stykkisholmur we recommend that you stop at the famous Geirabakarí Bakery in Borgarnes town which was featured as pizza restaurant Papa John's in the movie. They even have a special Walter Mitty pastry!
Overnight in Stykkisholmur

Day 5  : Beautiful things don't ask for attention

Approximate distance: ca 330 km / 200 miles

Was it Greenland? Was it Iceland? In Stykkisholmur you'll encounter the picturesque setting from which Mitty soared with the drunken helicopter pilot.
boat tour to admire the rich birdlife and sealife around the isles of Breidafjordur is included in the trip*! And seeing as you are really stepping out of your comfort zone already, we recommend you taste the wonderful selection of shellfish and sea life which will be caught fresh from the ocean: scallops, sea urchins, crabs, starfish, sea cucumbers and much more.
After the boat tour you can either explore the countless natural wonders of the Snaefellsnes peninsula such as Arnarstapi sea cliffs with its varied birdlife and the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur before driving along the north coast through lively fishing villages. Or spend the rest of the day roaming around town and locating some of the houses found in the movie. Don't forget to ask some of the locals for interesting inside information on the filming process in Stykkisholmur!

Day 6  : In your mind you can do anything

Approximate distance: ca 170 km / 100 miles

The moss covered lava fields of the Reykjanes peninsula make for the perfect last day on the road in Iceland. But when you travel past the moon like surroundings of Lake Kleifarvatn, bubbling mud pools of Krysuvik geothermal area and the famous silica and minaral rich waters of the Blue Lagoon it becomes all to real that in your mind you can do anything, but when you do it for real it's just so much better!
Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 7  : Been here - Done that!
